Actually the whole celibacy thing, is the fault of Pope Alexander I, notorious for having had numerous affaires with married and unmarried women alike. Things got so bad, the old boy was an embarrassment to the church with women claiming he fathered their bastard children, as well as live in lovers suing for palimony and winning. That after the death of this Medici family member, it was decided that in the best interest of the Holy See, that maybe it was a good idea for priests in the future to be celibate. This of course didn't stop the buggering of choir and altar boys, they didn't fall under the same category as women, you know, original sin and all.
