For a country located geographically in Europe, Ireland has a mentality closer to more primitive tribal nations fighting for valuable resources. There is a strong tendency to nepotism, cronyism, and the good ole boys club mentality, and yes corruption. They are xenophobic, but they hide it well, usually behind the facade of the code of the Brehon. Strangers are welcome, but only so far. Fundamentally, unless Ireland can collectively admit that the current government is not doing the job, mistakes were made, trust and promises broken and seek to find others from outside the accepted groups, it will fail to draw itself out of the current problems they are in. EVERY IRISHMAN played a part in the current economic situation the country is currently in. And it will take EVERY IRISHMAN doing his part to pull the country out of the shit. It needs creative leaders, not yes men and women. It needs innovation, it needs education, and it needs it fast.
Another problem is the Euro, if they controlled their own currency, they could do what the US does when it finds itself in the economic collective shit, print more money, but being tethered to European Union teat is not going to help and will in fact hinder any kind of regrowth that is necessary to rebuild the country.
Lastly the biggest and one of the most insidious by products of all of this is the brain drain. Students and educated people who can in the coming years be of benefit to Ireland, are deserting the country by the Ryanair plane loads, and this above all else will cause the country to sink even further into the morass of socioeconomic stagnation.
But that is just my humble opinion.

Nope we are in this shit because of greed which pushed the cost of living up too far. We are simply too expensive for anyone to invest in and we borrowed and spent like no tommorow. We were never and have never being a rich country but were behaving like one.

Ireland put simply is a nation of corruption. Between the government, church ,pubic service its nothing but corruption from top to bottom. Most of those you see jailed are nothing like some of those walking around and being politically corrupt. I have said it over and over and over again. The Irish in general are a nation of sneaks and nine out of ten of them would turn on you in the end and cut your throat. This coming from an Irish person.

My point here is not everyone will do their bit in this country. The expenses shit with politicians is still going on. The Pubic service are still useless. The gov have being warned to rip up the Croke park agreement. The Pubic Service and the politicians themselves along with the could care less as long as im ok attitude thats typical of Irish ,is what will sink this country even more and it can get worse.

    alot worse,

Bad examples as for a rebellion to be started sucessful the few people know about it the better.
There was a good turnout in '98 at least in leinster the issue was is that poorly armed peasants cannot defeat cannon.
The majority did turn out in 1919-1921 and look what was done then, unity is the key.
Look at 1969-1994 when the "men" of the south turned their backs on the sons of Ulster when they rose against na Sasanaigh
The history of Ireland is one of rebellion and resistence its also one of disunity, cowards and traitors.

As for the current crisis it is nothing compared to the past.

I dont know if anyone can lead the country out of the mess it is in but for sure Biffo and his gang are not up to the job.
I think the IMF are going to have to be brought in sooner rather than later.
    The Truth is out there.

Better sooner than later. They will have to treat them like a poor third world country, which in essence is what Ireland is, regardless of where it is located.

Ok, so we're largely agreed the wrong shower of bastards are running the country. We're split on the IMF and whether or not the corporate tax is good or bad. One things for sure, with our gifted emigrating we're more reliant than ever on foreign companies plying their trade here, getting rid of corporate tax rate will guarantee no investment from foreign business.

What we really need is a tax benefit on escorting. More people will visit their favourite escort on a regular basis generating a much needed cash flow. Discounts from escorts for a continued trade, like a members rate, would also help in this regard.

Now, because neither of the above are available I must go and tug the living shit out of my joy stick while watching Halle Berry get a seeing to in monsters ball.
