Hi Violette, As I always suspected you have, like me, third level qualifications. Originally I suspected your qualification/s were in either or all of Psychology/ Sociology/Politics. Now from this I will broaden my suspicions to either or all of Economics/The Classics/History (both ancient and modern). Remember that when God asked the Irishman "Why the Irish have all the pototoes and the Arabs have all the oil?" The Irishman sucked his thumb and admitted he didn't know. God's answer was that "the Irish had the first choice!" Good Hunting Baby, TomXXX

i think that is the official optimistic line but when talking to an auctioneer in private he will probably tell you a different story some years seems to be when prices are expected to increase but how far they will have fallen before they start to increase seems no one is sure i heard 1990s prices are already being quoted for some properties although i think those are mostly commercial properties

There are cases around the country like this going on where people paid large prices for houses in estates only to see many houses lying idle afterwards and then being sold for a much lower price that the original buyers paid. Some are trying to make a claim against the builder/developer..........
It's no better up North, cos the bubble that happened in the Republic spread to here. Before the ceasefires in '94, you could get a very nice 3 storey Georgian House on the Antrim Road for £20k. By 1997 it was up to £75k. Just 3 years ago it was £300K, now £90k if ur lucky. No one saw that it was all just paper prices and the whole thing was going to bust. Now NAMA is administering empty apartment blocks at Custom House, Titanic Quarter & Laganside. I don't think we've even begun to feel the pain properly yet. Just feel sorry for those who stretched themselves to buy at the height of the boom with 100 or even 120% mortgages and who are now in serious negative equity

I agree with your post Paddii, but just not this bit.........

Plenty of people saw it, but those who need to, either didn't, or didn't say anything about it.........

you have a point there. Those who did see it just hoped it wouldn't bust till they got out. I know a few people who made a packet and a lot who are now stuck.

A good comparison, but doesn't Japan still make things? I'm trying to think of people I know who actually make things that people in other countries might conceivably want to buy. I'm not coming up with many names.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
