    Default Belle De Jour

Did anyone watch The Panel last night? Former escort Belle De Jour who used to write books and blogs about her escorting appeared on the show last night. She kept her identity secret for years while working studying and later working as a scientist. The series The Secret Diary Of A Call Girl starring Billie Piper is based on her. The comedians joked with her and asked her questions just like any other guest that would appear. I'm beginning to think that people are finding escorting more acceptable these days. Theres been alot said in newspapers and appearances on tv shows about escorts recently. With Wayne Rooney and other footballers seeing escorts, an appearance by an escort on the X Factor and escorts getting interviewed on chat shows it seems it's becoming more accepted.

I thought last year David McWilliams as host was a bad idea. They now have the even dryer Craig Doyle. This man is appearing on every show he can. Not only has he done holiday programmes for years, then he does the sport on the BBC and then ITV, his own chat show, littlewoods ads. There must be a shortage of good presenters when their scaping the bottom of the barrel.

Yeah I saw it alright. I cant stand Colin Doyle as a host. He is usless. I do take your idea that public opinoin regarding escorting is becoming less taboo than in the past.

Unfortunately there is still a bad general public opinion, unless of course you are lucky enough to write a fabulous book series and earn a fortune!
Also, I think the media view Belle de Jour favourably (as opposed to Chloe x factor, for example), because she is a highly educated young woman and was always studying alongside her work with a view to a career once her phd was finished (so I hear).
Do you think she would have gotten the same treatment had she been an uneducated woman with not many prospects?
I think she is wonderful and I really like her, especially what she has done, but do you not think the media are just a little bit hypocritical (read big bit) about escorts? As attention grabbing and interersting as these books are... they are still glamourising prostitution at the end of the day, and what some impressionable readers may not see in these books, are the psychological side effects that go along with the job.
I saw an article recently absolutely slamming the xfactor girl (because she appears a bit dim) and completely trying to panic the readers into thinking that 'oh, just wait, it'll be YOUR daughter next who wants to be a hooker, especially when they let one enter the x factor!'. Silly, and unfair as she deserved an chance equal to the rest of the contestants, of course! BUT - why are they applauding and bigging up Belle and berating the rest? They are sending mixed messages...

I think you might be right Jessica. The newspapers gave the X Factor girl a hard time and wrote all sorts about her. I never saw anything negative written about Belle.

If it was Chloe instead of Belle on the Panel last night , there would have been an entirely different interview done . The 2 women are poles apart as people , one is far less equipped to deal with the business than the other is . I felt that somehow they were highlighting how much safer escorts are if they worked for an agency , even though they didn't discuss any other aspect of the business in the short interview .
