17 is the age of sexual consent but you must be 18 to be a prostitute under child protection laws. While reading about this I came across a bit of info I wasn't aware of, Homosexuality was actually illegal in this country until 1993, I just assumed it was frowned upon in backward Catholic Ireland..

To the best of my knowledge this was published in 2007 and is the most up to date version available and does contain provisions for the prosecution of a person engaging with a person under the age of 18
