That's a good point.

What I'd say is, if a garda contacts you, don't just believe he is a guard. Ask him/her what is his/her name and what station does he/she work at. Then call the guard back at their workplace using the phone number published for that Garda station on Homepage of An Garda Síochána.

There are fake guards, and the only way to be sure you are dealing with a real one is to make a check like this.
