I am not a believer in the old superstitions, but I think the don't walk under ladders one is a pretty sensible one. The ones I don't understand are-
No new shoes on tables
If you spill salt throw more over your shoulder

I think its all psychosomatic in that if you believe that Friday 13 is unlucky you will look for the bad stuff that happen on that day and put it down to the day. The same bad stuff could happen any other day but because its a day for bad luck you are more likey to notice the bad stiff today
