My 2 penneth....personal view....i dont see the point of bring in off topic rules. I think this does link back into the General Chat v Soap Opera discussion too. Most threads in General Chat at some point go off topic and dont see this as any reason to close a thread. Closing threads should only be done in extreme reasons, and yes there have probably been times when threads have been closed when they shouldnt. This is something which will be down to common sense.
You should make a ruling here as your condradicting what your mods are portraying in dealing with people and threads are getting closed to suit people rather thann rulebreaking it seems...

To sum up this thread. Can we all agree that the onus is on all of us to try to keep threads on topic, and not just the job of mods etc.....

And if we see a thread going off topic with bickering between a few people on a subject that has nothing to do with the original topic, or it turning into a big laugh and a piss take etc that we should point this out in the thread and perhaps the people involved may start another thread to carry on their off topic debate, piss take, slagging match or whatever???

I think we should at least give it a go as I know for a fact that this off topic stuff is really annoying for some people and affecting the posting frequency of a few of our nicest and most entertaining and interesting posters.........

    Thanks.........

Default Define an off topic thread

We have a rule that an off topic thread can only be posted in soap opera
I would like a definition of an off topic thread as none has been provided
    Blatant promotion should be outlawed

The term thread can refer to a series of related postings in an online discussion. Web-based bulletin boards are made up of many topics, or threads. The replies posted in response to the original posting are all part of the same thread. I
An off-topic post would be one that is differing from the topic or not relevant to the OP.
