Shenandoah is an old American folk song. Like many folk songs, there are several versions. Some lyrics tell the story of a European trader who falls in love with an Indian chief's daughter; others express the yearning of sailors and travellers for their homelands. The version below is from Bruce Springsteen's masterful Seeger Sessions. I like to think of it as an ode to the human heart.
"Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter
Away you rolling river
I'll take her across the water
Away, bound away
Cross the wide Missouri."
