Before i get pm'ed with death threats, i just wanna say id never ever condone paedophilia or anything non-consensual. I just have an opinion on this and, after recently sharing it with a friend, was surprised that he couldnt see any slight sense in my points... I also know on the boards here we have a very open forum and would love to see what you guys think.
I am of the opinion that anyone attracted to underage girls or boys have a seriously jaded view of attraction. But i also think they are predisposed to this attraction, either mentally at birth or through whatever negative experiences they've gone through in their life. There must be paedophiles who realise they have a perverted sense of attraction and have never acted on it. Not so long ago, homosexuality was illegal... And I think that they are similiar in the sense that they have been predisposed to this change from the normal sexual attractions, either through their environment growing up or just naturally born with it...
For me, i have a lot of sympathy for paedophiles who havent acted on their attractions. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. However, i have zero sympathy for anyone who would ever act on these impulses. They deserve more than the law can impose on them. I applaud the treatment of them in prisons.
I genuinely think these people who don't act on it are victims of circumstance. They must live lonely existences.
These guys cannot be rehabilitated as studies have shown even with chemical castration (which is not available here) They still get urges but cannot physically act on it and so often use a different tool etc.
It is still hard to find sympathy for them even though it appears they are born this way as most are aware what they feel is wrong, they are not sociopaths the most have a conscience

There is no easy answer to this issue and will be ongoing long after we pass on

Totally agree and also with poster who says that these "people" cannot be cured , a case in point the killers
of Jamie Bulger, one of them who was given a new life , identity etc for the most horrible crime is back behind bars
charges with downloading Child Abuse , I do not like to call it Child Pornograpy.
What good is a register to children who are this very minute are being drugged , abused and filmed.

As a history lover, I find it fascinating that what we consider abhorrent today was the norm for societies like ancient Greece and Rome. Paedophilia, in the form of pederasty, and especially homosexual pederasty, was positively encouraged.

Even a hardcore martial culture like the Spartans encouraged homosexual pederast relationships between their hoplites in the belief that it improved discipline - supposedly you'd be more likely to fight harder if you had a "relationship" with the man next to you in the battle-line. In Athens it was more "artistic" in the sense that they were attracted to the youthful ideal body.

Pederasty has also cropped up again and again over the centuries in art. Look at the sculpture of David, for example, the smooth youthful masculine ideal with a really small penis.

    Sorry for boring you

Fair play for expressing an opinion a view but your interpretation of paedophilies is wrong there must be a death sentence applied not trying to give u a short answer but a person who feels the urge to touch a child sexually must firstly face up to the problem before acting upon it they need to seek help & find out what is it in their background that tempts them to want to touch children sexually, help is there if they dont want help & committ a sexual act against a child they must leave this earth....

i would like to think that these ppl dont choose to have these thoughts/feelings. Though why they choose to act on these thoughts or feelings is quite unforgivable.

Paedophilia and homosexuality are completely different things, if you want to compare it to anything imho it's rape.
Both rape and paedophilia are about having power and control over another person.

I think it's too easy to say something like the death penalty as a solution as studies show that in America where it's used for capital crimes the murder rate's still much higher than in countries without.

I believe it's got much more to do with environment than genes. Again studies show that those people who've been abused have a higher risk of abusing others than those who have not, one of the reasons it's so crucial to give counselling to victims of abuse and of course have funds available so at risk children get real protection instead going into projects which are only there for show.

Another solution for me would be to focus on the boring stuff, teach children at as young an age as possible to have respect for themselves and others and the world would be a much better place.

I agree with you but sometimes the differences between homosexuality and paedophilia can become blurred sometimes.
I have lived a life of regrets.
