Just don't touch his ears....

and i would be interested in seeing the exact nature of the abuse
see you next tuesday
Anti women jokes are any that charachterise women in a demeaning way, whether they be dumb blonde jokes, women drivers, the wife at home etc. They're out there in the world, just like other forms of jokes, and I'm as guilty as anyone. Feminists and women in general aren't keen on them (now I know a few of the women i know would laugh to hear me take this line). However this site by its nature has many contributions, from men, that are in the view of most in society very unacceptable esp. some of the reviews with text often removed by mods (rightly so).
But there is a difference with humour and it's up to us all to decide what is to our taste. I have my views on the matter and think people need to lighten up a bit. I'll leave it up to all to decide which way they feel about it.
A lot of feminists believe that far from being demeaning prostitution is liberating for women. But whether we like it or not prostitution is considered by most countries as unacceptable in that women are exploited etc. I dont agree, but maybe it's convenient for me to say that.
However my point is most forums are meant to be fairly permissive with regard to expression of views and so I think it's a bit rich for this forum to take out the big stick re. my earlier joke comparing internet arguing to retards. An individual's view is being imposed on me re. what constitutes an unacceptable joke and I disagree with that.
I for one found your comment offence not the word itself but the context it was used in. In order to put accross your opinion you compared the winner of an online argument to someone wining a race at the special oiympics.
If you dont think people with special needs or there friends or familys would mind this comment offence then I disagree with you. The word retard itself as a word dosent bother me more so the way people use it .
However thank you for your apology it says a lot more about you as a person to me than your previous comments

oh sorry, i didnt realise it was such a personal issue. i thought you, above all people would understand the use of questionable humour. but at least some people try to use it to empasize their points
and btw i really liked your 'niggers' joke here. i sure it would be impossible for anyone to take offence to that.

I think you make some good points regarding censorship and expression of views here, and maybe carlos should have allowed it. But there's no denying that it is an offensive thing, and posts can only get so offensive and pervasive before we can't allow them to stay up. Sometimes people have said things about killing etc., so there has to be a line drawn somewhere.
While you're free to say what you want and have your own opinions in your own home or in a public place (so long as it's not clear threats, defamation or false statements, or clearly/strongly inciting people to criminality), you should be aware that E-I is not a public place and expressing or making fun out of certain groups of people may not be allowed here. The word "nigger" might be allowed up, but open mocking and racist jokes at their expense and based solely on their failings in life would be different. Remember that other people on E-I might be very different than you are.
I think it's a difficult one that could go either way, even Obama made a joke about the special olympics at one point during his presidency. Personally I just don't like the joke to begin with as I don't agree it makes a point, so maybe I'm biased in that way. But that aside, I doubt jokes about people who are physically handicapped would go down very well here if you started mocking them about their main, unfortunate failing in life, like saying something about "like winning at the paralympics...." etc. Nobody is saying you're in any way unethical or making comments about you, it's just that a line has to be drawn somewhere and it's better to err on the side of caution... particularly when very different people with very different perspectives can be here. I would expect a post like that to be deleted on most other sites... if that was deleted on me I would just let the moderation slide.
