True, the Brits are good people on their home soil however they have a terrible reputation abroad - apart from when they're here. I don't think I'm being unfair in saying that.
They've never been able to get rid of the football hooligan/larger lout labels that seem to follow them around.
As you say they give it to you straight which is what I like about them, especially the northern girls, fantastic breed altogether.
Ireland has always had a reputation for being a friendly place and there is/was a common belief abroad that Irish people are lovely.
What some would interpret as nosiness, others would consider to be showing an interest in the person you are talking to and be helpful & friendly toward them. There is begrudgery in every country, we are just more aware of what goes on in our country, and that's why you have the saying 'fuck the begrudgers'.
I think the majority of Irish are nice people, but no more so than English, Dutch, German, Brazilian etc. Quit with the stereotypes.

Nice as a nation - you must be joking - we hate when one of our own achieves anything and cannot wait to knock them down -
Yes, the Irish certainly have a reputation for being nice, and friendly. But is it still deserved??? I'd like to think so, but sadly I'm not so sure...........
I think as a nation, we've changed. Everybody is to busy to be nice any more...........
During the boom years evenybody was busy making money and busy looking down there noses at eack other. To busy to be nice........
Now, to busy trying to make ends meet to be nice...........
Yes, I think we've changed, but more or less nice..........
Every now and again I see something that makes me sick to my stomach to be part of this nation, but then I'll see some random act and it'll make me change my mind again............
It costs nothing to be nice, to be polite, a simple smile or hello to or from a strange can mean so much...........
As with most things in life, it's the little things...........
