Today there are 281 Dublin escorts advertised. Very hard to estimate how much business the "average" escort does but let's assume an average of 15 guys per week, does that sound fair? Obviously some will do a lot more, some will do less. Let's also assume that these are 15 different guys and that most punters would not visit two different escorts in a week. So that's over 4,000 guys visiting excorts advertising on E-I on a weekly basis.

I have a feeling that my estimates are on the low side by the way. So there's a lot of it about, and among younger guys, the taboo has virtually gone, at least in male-only circles. I've talked to younger workmates who've been away on stag weekends where EVERYONE got shagged by an escort, on the basis that it was dirt-cheap and "why wouldn't you?"

Speaking for myself I've always justified it as a way of getting sexual release at times when sex (or the type of sex you want) hasn't been available elsewhere. I grew up in the 70s and 80s when many girls "didn't" until you were virtually engaged, and many relationships floundered on the issue of sex - the guys wanted it, the girls wouldn't oblige and things went downhill from there.

But I've never confided in anyone about punting. One workmate of my own age confided in me, but I didn't return the favour as I thought it would be very dangerous to do this. I am very clear about one thing though. Married punters need to be extremely careful because most wives would see this as a separation/divorce issue.

I'm not a "loser" but I do see that punting is not seen as "normal" behaviour. Ask yourself how various people would react if they found out....your wife/partner....your son/daughter....your mother/father....brother/sister......relatives....friends.....workmates....boss. In most cases we have to admit they would probably be disgusted?

I have no easy answers for anyone, I just observe that the large number of escorts in Dublin are not doing business with themselves, and it is still a very secretive activity to which shame is attached if you are caught.
