Default Where do we have 1.3bn to give to Greece ??

A Greek Tragedy or What ?

First of all we had to cough up 450 million now it's 1.3bn.

Brian Lendahand cribbed that he had to cut the Public service wage bill by 1.3bn because we could'nt afford it .

Yet now we have to fork out 1.3bn to a basket case like Greece.

Why the fuck did'nt Lenihan stand up at the meeting of the Finance ministers and say something like
"lads, I hate to tell you this but Ireland does'nt have an arse in it's trousers at the moment and therefore we wont be handing and money to Greece, because we may be knocking on the door in a few months time with our begging bowl"

No he did'nt because he is constintly sucking up to the "international investors" etc.

    Rant over

Its true. All we hear is lads we have to tighten or belts and not spend too much. We will have to leave everyone to lie on a hospital bed because we cant afford to pay any nurses to look after you. We will have to cut back on socail welfare and tax the elderly and vunreble. We are going to add a water tax just to get a few more euro off ye. Whats that Greece you need a loan, sure Ill tell you what we will cough up some euros for you if you give us all villas in your country

That's the short term view, we took from the EU for far longer then we gave, its swings and roundabouts and we are a matured EU state now and the EU pumped a lot of money in here when we were a basket case for decades and regardless of our current problems we have to pay whatever share we signed up for. I am sure we have gotten far more from the EU then we have paid in and as we mature we become net contributors just as other nations were to us, we can't stay as a handout nation forever and have to honour our commitments or the whole house of cards falls apart.

Maybe that house of cards deserves to collapse but at the moment its what has stopped this continent from the cycle of wars that it was locked into and that alone makes paying a few billion well worth it, cheap at 100 times the price and what goes around comes around and it might be us getting bailed out before long.

is we havnt anything to give them. They had it to give us. There is a difference. We have to look after our own economy.

not that we are doing that,

Without the EU we wouldn't have an economy to look after.

It's quite possible that other EU states objected to the Irish being given handouts over the years but they kept their mouths shut.

1.3 is a small amount to have to pay to help a country in need of assistance. If the shoe was on the other foot, we wouldn't be turning down the bailout now would we.

Can anyone delete that 'drop one keep one' thread, it's too stupid for words. Do people not feel like complete idiots by adding to it?

There is no such thing as "our" ecomomy anymore, we are all lumped in together weather we like it or not and we have to take the rough with the smooth, we took the european shilling and we have to pay up if we sighned up to this. If one goes we all go so as I understand it this billion we have to pay is based on our size of economy.

I say we have to get behind the Greeks hell, we might get an island out of it eventually.
