But conservatives don't "champion progress", conservatives are very skeptical of and staunchly opposed to progress that isn't shown to be fruitful to humankind. They are very wary of the ethical and practical dangers. That's one of their defining aspects.

It's the conservatives who are opposed to all that stem cell research, and nuclear power, and green technology and all that other "progress". It's the liberals who are into all that new-age shit. That's their THING, that's their IDEAL. I think Kaczynski got liberals and conservatives mixed up.

He could have found a lot of conservative friends (at least a lot more than liberal ones), but no.... he felt it better to just stroke them all with the same simple-minded brush and insult them all.

I agree humanity is out of control and we're going to destroy ourselves and cause a lot of torture and suffering before it if we continue this way though.

People can't imagine the entire world blowing up because it's not a part of our primitive, instinctive mind. We think "okay, well maybe something twice the size of Chernobyl is the worst thing that could ever possibly happen somewhere in the world" But nuclear equations don't go up in multiples, they go up in exponentials. That's why I do think heading this way we're all going to die.... or maybe our children or our children's children... you'd have to be stupid to think the government and regulators are really going to stop it if it gets too easy. The only thing we can hope for is that maybe there really would be a limit to how much we could do barring nuclear warheads (which put together and launched could destroy the entire planet several times over), but don't count on it.

But Kaczynski's idea of randomly killing people is no solution. And you can't force someone to read something. Ironically he could have set up his own website AND used his high academic PhD standing to sell books and crap on primitivity. He could be seen as a genius who foresake the world of mathematics to try to save human kind. But no, he threw all that away to give people who believe in the natural world a bad name.
