I believe that its of historical value to some but in the current climate how could any government justify spending that sort of cash.
From an historical perspective it's a shame to see an item like this anywhere but in one of the national museums. The 1916 Rising was one of the pivotal moments of Irish history and it needs to be remembered. I understand about there being no money in the kitty, though - hopefully the buyer might donate it to a museum here...
what a thick bastard you are......the republic may yet not be achieved....we have now entered the final phase of struggle.....a thick prick like u wouldent understand.....tiocfaidh ar la

It would be a complete waste. Nobody in New York or wherever wanted to buy it either.
For me an object is only useful as far as it is 1) practical or 2) god DAMN... I forget whatever it was I was going to put here but you know it was going to be good. Oh yeah... for purposes of selling again.... eg. paper banknotes, coins, gold.
An object could be practical though for the sake of making sure we remember our history and making it harder for someone to erase or change the facts. That is also a practical/political value. But "sentimental" value? Collecting for the sake of collecting? Silly IMO.
