I admire even more your self knowledge and to me understandable hesitancy re

    This particular cohort .

My rhetorical question was not directed at You xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

You really have given us very little information, or maybe you don't have information to give.
Sexual offences is a very broad term when you are talking about a foreign unnamed country. If sexual offences were carried out in this country we know exactly what crimes were committed.
In another country if this period was holding hands with another man he would be thrown into jail as a sexual offence.
You probably need more information before you can make a decision

There was no information whatsoever to give (rules of the organisation) - like I said I would have been none the wiser had I not "Googled" the prison in the question (UK), but thanks anyway for showing interest.

You’re a very sound bloke and have a great outlook on things , but I wouldn’t communicate with him bud.

Is there an option to be re-assigned a new pen pal ?

I have no time for sex offenders, it is a horrific crime and offenders should be prosecuted accordingly.
I also believe that people are capable of change.
You possibly could have wrote to him and if he showed remorse for what he had done and shown an understanding of the devastating impact his crime had on the person then maybe you could have continued correspondence with him.

I can fully understand why it would not rest easy on your conscience to engage with someone who committed such a terrible violation of another persons body.
Can I ask you what crimes a person could have committed that your conscience would have allowed you to engage with?

No offence Rooney - I'm done this with topic and so should others. I'm no longer considered to be a suitable volunteer. As for what crimes - well that's an unfair and leading question, which nobody in their right mind would answer, because of the serious reciprocal implications, but if I did have a choice it would have to be "Fletcher" (played by Ronnie Barker) from the drama series "Porridge" in the mid 70's!!! My conscience is clear.
