I agree with every word of this, in this job we meet people from all walks of life, and very often it is easy to spill your heart out to a stranger, and I have heard all sorts of heartbreaking stories, I feel that I am good at listening and giving advice because I myself have been going to counselling for years, I think everyone should go to counselling it’s good to get an Outside perspective and guidance, the trick is to meet the right counsellor, someone who you click with. When I eventually have less family commitments my goal is to return to college to study to be a counsellor, I think it’s a job that I would be very suited to As I know that I am a genuinley empathetic person Although I will say it’s something I have to be wary of in this job because I do take on other peoples worries and pain, and I have to gaurd myself from that, I remember one day in the south of Ireland having three clients in a row each with heartbreaking stories one was a fine strapping lad in his late 20s with terminal cancer but he had an absolutely wonderful attitude, He wasn’t going to put himself through chemo again he was just going to live his best life for his last days, the next was a man who ended up crying because he was going through a separation and had just moved into an empty apartment that day, and then a young man who was recently widowed with young children, I remember that day just feeling so so emotionally drained and sad and this also makes you realise no matter how bad our own problems might seem there is always someone 1 million times worse who is just managing to get on with it!!
