Call me old-fashioned, but I still like the old way of doing it as well.
I feel that many/most meetings, particularly political ones etc. don't make any sense anymore, people can do videoconferencing, they can send emails etc. People seem to love sitting around a table in their "committee" and thinking so highly of themselves.
They are just an excuse for politicians and even businessmen, to spend thousands flying around the place for no reason. But escorting is one of those things that may indeed be better to be there. (the same with social and family meetings and things like that).
Business/political meetings are pretty obsolete these days because what is the reason for it? Then whoever is the best actor or has their story set out the best wins and just biases whatever's going on.
