Daniel Ricciardo race ended through no fault of his own after he was hit from behind by Lance Stroll and forced to retire.
Shortly before that, Daniel Ricciardo had passed Nico Hulkenberg under safety car conditions and he has received a 10-second penalty.
Because he was forced to retire, that penalty will be deferred to the next race in Miami, where he will receive a three-place grid penalty instead. He also receives two penalty points on his license.
Bit inconsistent. Sometimes in similar circumstances, penalties are deferred over to the next race and sometimes they are not. Something that needs to be clarified in the rules.

There used to be huge inconsistencies in the stewarding system when there were different stewards at each race, the penalties were random at best.
It's better now but something like this comes up and it seems strange, but to continue racing while an incident has happened that's serious enough to warrant a safety car is kinda dangerous.
Someone needs to tell Lance that undertaking isn't allowed behind the safety car either. He's lucky his daddy lets him out to play at the weekends
Good work there Steve. I'll be asking EI if they will sponsor us to go cover some of the races trackside on their behalf- you running commentary, I'll hold your beer, we'll been needing camera and sound crew producers etc. Will we call it an even 50k to do the job?
