Enoch just need a loving person to say "There, there, there"
    or
    "their, their, their."
    or
    "They're "they're" they're"

    but never "They"

Anyone who says that using They singular is a linguistic imposition is being a little disingenuous, in my opinion. Most people use it a lot, either when the gender is unknown to you, or the gender doesn't exist.

"I just got a notification from the driver, and they are on their way"

"This mad house needs a new manager, and they will have their work cut out for them"

    Just keep that up.

There is definitely one way it can be confusing, but it is in a very limited circumstance when you have no way of telling who the "they" is because you are speaking about a subject where they could refer to a singular or a plural.

"That non-binary kid is struggling in school, and we have a meeting with the board next week. They don't know to resolve the issue"

But you soon get over the tiny imposition that puts on you as the speaker, once in a blue moon when something like that comes up, and after like 10 minutes it becomes second nature to refer to someone how they would like to be referred to.

Anyway, Burke is a bellend, who thinks he is on a holy crusade, when in fact him and is family are a joke.

'They' is acceptable if the person is not visible to you and you're not aware of their gender, but, if the person is standing in front of you it will be obvious they are either male or female. There is no other choice !! As I said, we are becoming a 'mad mad' world

And why would it matter to you to have to refer to someone by they instead of her or him, other than I goes against rules you have in your head from a time when that was the norm? The norm has changed, as thousands of other norms have changed in your lifetime.

"Acceptable"? Who accepted this? Was there a vote?

It is acceptable (there's that word again!) that the norm in many things will change as times progress, but one thing will remain unchanged, there is only male and female.

Even outside of the trans issue, and some people's belief in immutablity of gender, "there is only male and female" is incorrect. There are people who are naturally, and biologically, intersex.

Yes, very true but very very rare and nothing to do with the 'cool vibe' in present generations who want to be a 'they' not a him or her. Repeating myself, it's a mad mad world ...
