I'm afraid I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but surely we're not to give our real names and addresses and email, cant we give an alias?

We do need people to give real email addresses. We then send one email to that address with a link for you to click on to confirm your signature should be added. This way we can show the government we have 5,000 real signatures, not just 5,000 made up or collected email addresses.

I presume most people have an email address that isn't your work email or your full name email if you prefer not to give that out? e.g. spongebobsquarepants@hotmail.com or whatever it is you use. A copy of this petition will be sent to the Irish Government and the UK government. Your email address will not be given to any other parties or used in any other way. If you wanted to, you could create a new email on gmail or wherever just to sign this petition.

Regards names, we have to ask people to give a name. What name you give is up to you. I don't think anybody will be checking if names match the phone book, indeed we are not even asking for an address, just what county you are in.

In essense I think the important thing is we get real signatures from real people, not whether the names match birth certificates.

    Thanks

    Default brothels

We need to keep in touch with reality here. or more importantly in this case, the perception of reality. This will be touted by Ruhana, the media, politicians, clergy and every other gobshite as a petition to legalise brothels and make it easier for the pimps to traffic women. I doubt very much if the message that this is about the safety of escorts will get through.

This will backfire badly on escorts, clients and E-I alike if there is any truth to any of the allegations by the recently departed N*T. E-I will be under intense scrutiny. If the media can make any connection between E-I and any unsavoury individuals, they will have a 'field day'.

It is a simple petition asking that two sex workers be able to work together legally in Ireland. It isn't asking for brothels to be legalised. Of course some will disagree with it. Are we supposed to not try to fight for our rights now because some might disagree, are we to give up before we've started because it's a tough fight?

As for for E-I, there is always going to be mud thrown at this site, but we are not shit.

    Arrow Well, I signed ...

I happen to think that it's good to have a voice and make it heard if you do what you believe it's good.

Independent ladies being under investigation, ladies working alone being threaten or attacked, these are really awful things in my opinion. Working with someone and being left alone from the guards makes our lives SAFER, not to mention cheaper too.

The "safer" part is more obvious, it is well presented in the petition text as well.
I would like to talk about the part where working in pairs is also more efficient.

Many girls are already doing it under the same roof. I don't know how they aren't afraid guards will not knock on their door someday. They're either very brave, either very ignorant in this area.

Me? Well I am neither brave, neither ignorant and excepting a short time when I started, I always worked by myself.

I am not sure about others, but I am kinda tired to :

    • Paying for the last months a security men 24/24 when I can just pair up with someone else for free.
    • Pay all my accommodation expenses by myself when many expenses could be easily halved.
    • Never being able to offer a duo session

With the big demand and higher prices from before, paying a security men, my rent and my bills (1200 rent + 350 car + about 300 monthly bills + 250 or 350 advertising and this doesn't even include accommodation while on touring), never used to bother me. These days, when money are scarce and clients less reliable, what I am doing it doesn't make any financial sense.

Clients would really benefit if ladies would be allowed legally to work in pairs: they have more to chose from , the ladies won't mind doing special discounts and generally allowing lower prices if their expenses will be less, some of them may be available longer in the night due to the fact they won't be afraid to receive late guests anymore etc ...

In conclusion, I think the petition is a very good idea and I wish many people would sign it and something will be done !

P.S. I dared to add a link to the petition on my website, I hope it will generate at least a few signatures : Welcome to my Website - Karin - Genuine Independent Escort

If you are loking for this topic to be discussed in a logical, intelligent manner Pat I'm afraid Ireland is not ready for it.
Sometimes it's good to raise a controversial topic in order for society to thrash it out & hopefully get some empathetic media folks behind it. I really can't see any main-stream media people sticking their heads above for this one, even if they agree. I'm also sure there are some politicians who empathise but they would be afraid also to take a solo run.
Until the generation who fear the Cathoilc Church & the righteously indignant conservatives who prefer keeping their heads firmly in the sand die out then this discussion will never happen.
A bit like drug prohibition, the laws on the sex industry will never reflect the realities on the ground but the moral high-ground maintained by what is becoming increasingly a minority.
Politicians are so obviously still in fear of the church & it's minions. It might be 10 - 20 yrs before the demographics allow an intelligent debate on sex workers & their clientelle.
When I'm the Minister for Revenge Bertie's ring will be twitching !

I agree with the Nads and his foreskinless mickey

Seriously, though, I picked up a copy of the Clare Champion newspaper today on O'Connell St. There was a front-page article about escorts in Ennis - the usual half-baked shite cobbled together from soundbites and the rest made up.

Do you seriously believe that this is a 'simple' petition. As far as I am aware, two girls working together is classified as a brothel. Therefor this is a petition to legalise brothels. If you or anyone connected with E-I have had any provable connection with running brothels or with anyone who has been running brothels, the media will see this as 'Pimps persuade clients to vote for brothels in order to import more trafficked women''. Whether it is the truth or not is irrelevant. The media have never been interested in the truth, only a good story.
My concern is that the whole thing could backfire. It could give Ruhana and the Religious Fruitcakes the opportunity to argue that the whole escort scene should be criminalised.

I am seeing our laws on brothel keeping being used to prosecute independent escorts and I've not seen one newspaper so much as question this so far. All I've seen is reporting that independent escorts are being prosecuted and then comments on trafficking etc, like somehow that is relevant to the issue of independent escorts now being prosecuted with our brothel laws?

Also this petition is not necessarily seeking a change in any law. Discretion can and should be used in applying the law. If the government were to for example state that they do not believe our laws on brothel keeping should be used to prosecute independent sex workers that would be a massive achievement.

Regards E-I, I've been around a long time now - 10+ years and I can tell you E-I has never been involved in pimping, running brothels, whatever you call it. We advertise escorts at the clearly published rates, end of, we do not and have never done any more than that. People with agendas can try to throw stones at us, find some tiny link somewhere and try to blow it up into something it's not, but the truth is what remains. This petition isn't about that.

We speak to escorts every week who are frightened because they feel they have to work alone. We speak to escorts that have been attacked and feel they can't go to the police because they might get busted themselves if they do. That's what this is about.

I'm trying to raise a point. I think it is a very valid point that needs raising. Why knock me?
