All life on this planet could be wiped out tomorrow, and it wouldn't make a difference to Earth. All it is is a barren rock with a temporary blue and green jacket. Whether it happens tomorrow or in 5 billion years.
I agree that life is inherently meaningless but have to disagree that there is absolutely no meaning whatsoever. Our brains function as pattern detection devices; we see faces where none exist, we connect two separate events because they happen at the same time, we ascribe significance if we believe that some event has occurred in the same place at different times. Our brains are flooded with the fairly simple chemicals which give rise to incredibly complex behaviour, in particular those that modulate mood and motivation; preferring one thing over another, wanting to go somewhere or see someone, having a good time or a bad time. To put it concisely, our brains necessarily generate meaning.
I’m currently watching cartoons from the 80s and eating chocolate and jellies for lunch. The gf is in bed, we had a great little date night last night and I’m looking forward to part two tonight. The sun is shining and it’s not even noon yet. Life is good.
