Their names were up in court. Everyone knows who did it.

They can't say to you: "We know you did it, but the judge doesn't know that. Listen, we'll let you off so long as you tell the judge that you were there for sexual services".

You see the sort of thing in crime dramas sometimes but not so straightforward, because it's an incredibly illegal and corrupt thing. It would mean the police can threaten anyone to get them to say anything they want. You can't do that, if you refuse to testify they can't do anything.
