Thread: Lá Fhéile Bríde Shona Daobh!!!!

Default Lá Fhéile Bríde Shona Daobh!!!!

    Happy Saint Bridgets day everyone!!

Omg I’m so happy to see the back of January, I’ve always hated that long month, those long dark days and then the insane weather!!

I’ve always had to stay on top of my mental health for the month of January, I swear SAD is real, I could never live in a country that has six months of darkness I swear I would be under the bed in a ball crying lol

Anyway Thank God for the 1st of February!!!! Roll on brighter days - the grand oul stretch in the evenings - daffodils lambs in the fields . . .

Who has a Bridget’s cross up in their home??? I love the look of them, but in school I used to get SO frustrated I could never make a nice one!!! All the other kids would have these amazing picture perfect crosses, and I’d be sitting in a pile of rushes with steam coming out my ears in frustration, a falling apart cross And the bitter realisation that I might never make an architect or an engineer ha ha ha!!

I saw this online “January is for dreamers, February is for doers”

Wishing everyone who reads this a happy Saint Bridgets day and a wonderful bank holiday weekend xx

For anyone wanting to make the cross today...

The best known Brigid's tradition is*the making and giving of Brigid's crosses. This tradition is based on a legend about Saint Brigid which tells us that she converted a dying Pagan. To explain the new faith to him, she improvised making a cross from rushes which was all that was available to her in the location.

January did feel like it was 6 months long. I could not cope. Next year definitely considering a sunny holiday for the month, as I used to do it before COVID. Can't wait for longer and brighter days 🥰

Is that the cloth you hang out on the hedge the night before Bridgets day and apparently she is supposed to come and bless the cloth you take it in in the morning? My nanny used to do that!

Yeah that's it. It's supposed to bring good luck and to help cure any ailments.
I don't know too many people that do it now, a lot of the old traditions are dying away.
