Then there's this scene, which always makes me worry a bit about the possible consequences of my hobby: YouTube - Don Giovanni - Commendatore Scene (English subtitles)

And while I'm on the subject of eternal damnation: Dailymotion - Verdi - Requiem - Dies irae (Extrait) - une vidéo Musique

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.

Herzog's "Nosferatu the Vampyre" used a haunting folk song from Georgia (no, the country!) as part of the soundtrack. Track it down if you can - sung by a choir, it's a stunning peice of music.

The woman in the video is Aphrodite herself (or Isabelle Adjani by day).

It would have to be Barber's Adagio for Strings. Imo it's pretty much perfect. Only shame it's being over used in films and butchered by dance artists.

Symphony No. 2 In D, Op. 43 , Jean Sibelius.
    The Firebird - Suite.
    Appalachian Spring, Copland.

And your quite right, but in fairness to the films, and even tv commercials, it's often the medium that brings many of these wonderful pieces to peoples attention..........

YouTube - Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings, op.11
