I would imagine people wouldn't last long in the water. Some probably in their cars. How did so much of the bridge crumble so quickly and not just the section that was hit?

This according to reports, is one of the longest bridge of its type in the world. Looks like a central support was damaged and when that part of the bridge fell it dragged the rest down. It was an iron bridge. Had it been masonry it may have just collapsed the section that was hit.
May have been lucky that it was in the early hours, otherwise it may have been worse.

The ship lost power, it sent a mayday message to port authorities but it was too late.
6 people still missing, they were part of a crew that were fixing potholes on the bridge at the time.

Looks like them 6 are dead. Its hard luck just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Seems the mayday signal did save some people as the authorities did stop more cars getting on to the bridge.

I guess the size of those ships if something goes wrong they can't exactly slow down, hard to get an idea of the scale of the ship but doesn't look like a lot of room for error to get under the highest part of the bridge
