As always, the narrow issue of Russell Brand raises the wider issue of the role of the press in society.
Often the many inappropriate sensational issues printed in the gutter press obscures the good work that the serious press can do.

Is that a failing of the press or the police or coverup by the BBC?

Or the acceptance across society of things rightly no longer tolerated.
    Were Irish schools any different?

I think you've gotten in over your head in this argument. Please look up some of Savilles crimes. But you probably won't believe them because he was never found guilty in a court of law
There was a lot of unacceptable behaviour burried in the past in Ireland and I am sure the world.
    One scandal after another.
    Magdalene Laundries.
Numerous in my own school from when I was a child.
Luckily while I witnessed it, I was never a victim.

Priests moved from our school by the Church and popped up in another school

    Complete madness.
    All covered up

Most of them got away with it only because they died.

But this doesn't make a witch hunt today, a trial by media, correct either.
The media want to sell news, they'll spin it to attract attention.

Bringing Saville into it is bringing justification to your point of view that witch hunts are justified, when I'm saying proper justice is the remit of the judicial services that could I think be more proactive for everyone's sake.

Justice delayed is justice denied, especially for those being judged by a media led witch hunt

Is he locked up, or has he had his assets frozen? No. So he is currently innocent.

Anyone, who is essentially a freelancer, will lose work or income if stories like this came out about them. Would you prefer him to still be making money off YouTube, and also potentially prejudicing a trial should one happen?
