Default Dutch Formula One Grand Prix

    Dutch formula one Grand Prix

    Race Sunday 27th at 14:00 [2pm]

    Qualifying

Wet and unpredictable at the start, with the final times set in the dry.
Logan Sargeant was very unlucky, into top ten and then crashed. The resulting red flag gave time for the track to dry out.
Charles Leclerc slid into the barriers. If he has damaged his gearbox, could incur penalty for new parts. That red flag left a hectic four minutes on a drying track for one warming up lap, followed by qualifying lap. But no stopping Max Verstappen!

In theory [mathematically] with ten races to go, anyone down to eleventh place can still win. Realistically, there can be only one winner.
Even if one driver had a record-breaking run and won all remaining races, the three sprints and the ten points for fastest lap, Max Verstappen can still win. If the driver was not Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen would not need to be on the podium for any race to still win.

    Yes.

Sebastian Vettel recorded nine straight wins in 2013 for Red Bull, which were Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Korea, Japan, India, Abu Dhabi, United States and Brazil.
If Max wins today that will be nine straight wins for him, equalling that record.

Michael Schumacher won the 2002 F1 championship with 6 races left. Interest in the racing flagged because the racing was assumed to be over, although there was some very good racing for the other placings. As a result, the points system was changed to prevent that happening again. The sprint races that are left this year, and their points, are after the next four races making this even more difficult this year, but it is mathematically possible but unlikely.

Michael Schumacher won eleven of seventeen races in 2002. The races he didn't win he was second with the exception of one were he was third. No retirements, all races with a podium finish. Max could equal that too, this season.

No team has ever won all the races in a season. Some have come close. Red Bull could this season but it would be difficult, especially with the long season and record-breaking number of races.

You have of course the rain. That could be Max's biggest problem but he seems to be able to handle anything.

Heavy rain at the start. All on dry tyres.
Most pitting for intermediates but tough decision because rain has slowed.

Max Verstappen pits for intermediates. Comes out well down field. Fourth presently.
The drivers who stayed out on softs still leading but probably need intermediates. Tyres bit of a tough call.

Max Verstappen overtakes Pierre Gasly. Very aggressive, borderline penalty stuff. Up to third then up to second behind Sergio Perez.

Strategy nightmare. Track drying. Now too dry for intermediates. Drivers on dry tyres setting fastest times.
But, there is more light rain, in three minutes.

    1) Perez
    2) Verstappen
    3) Zhou
    4) Gasly
    5) Alonso
    6) Sainz
    7) Leclerc
    8) Tsunoda
    9) Ocon
    10) Norris
