That is, unfortunately so true.
I also think mobile phones are a major contributor.
I have regularly been quilty of glancing across at my phone on passenger seat when a message comes in , Bluetooth has been a great success, but text or WhatsApp messages are a massive distraction,
So much can go wrong in the blinking of an eye.

I’d agree with all of that too. Another factor is road conditions. There are a few spots on the motorways which are supposed to be our safest roads, which are deadly when heavy rain comes along. And of course our secondary roads leave loads to be desired.

A 3 yr old girl killed in a crash in Portlaoise last night, its mind boggling, such a summer of tragedy on the roads.
