Thread: Facial Recognition????

    Default Facial Recognition????

Can any tecchies here tell me how concerned should we be about facial Recognition??

Think most of us have seen on twitter about the U. K. Lady who was detained in L. A. Her face isn't on her profiles but some sites require certain things to verify your identity before you can create a profile.

This morning in Boots purchasing some of my, ahem "trading expenses" I was suddenly very away of my face being recorded on the self service screen.

We are all being tracked by our phones, there's GPS in our cars, we are being recorded in every premises we enter. This never would have bothered me before because I'd think "why would anyone be interested in me" but this has got me thinking, how easy could it be to build a profile on anyone, track their routines, their spending habits etc etc.

Could our future grandchildren/great grandchildren have access to this information?

    Is anything private anymore?

Someone who works for Google once told me that it's true that Google knows everything about you and that phones are "listening for frequently used words for the purpose of advertising"

I'm really not as tech savvy as I should be, but thinking about it all makes me want to move to a remote mountain in Donegal and go off grid!!!!

Its just part of life now im afraid. I turn what i can off. Location ect, but yes everything is still listening even if you think its not.

Get an email off google every now and then telling me places i have visited, (despite location services being switched off 90% of the time) it pretty much has every visit to an escort logged... lol... there is an amenity near by not the exact location, luckily i have an excuse to be in that area every now and then.

Yes, on an iPhone there a section that's actually so hard to find, you go to settings and click on a million other things and you come to an area where it has tracked every premises you visited, the times you were there from... Crazy stuff

we live in a age of convenience and that has a price - privacy.
if people are serious about their privacy, then don't be signed up to social media, free email accounts etc. even not to have a mobile phone. or at least only use a brick phone from the late 90's that just does calls and SMS. you could go more extreme as well if really that way inclined but what kind of life would be?

half measures are pointless, if you signed up you signed up regardless of what settings you choose.

Over COVID we got a facial recognition clock-in machine, to avoid the whole touch thing. It also checked your temperature and made sure you were wearing a mask. Now, in our place it is medical device manufacturing, so you need as much protection as you can so nothing really to worry about from the set up. Except, one day I forgot what I was wearing, and the machine still recognised me while wearing a mask and tinted safety glasses. That bit was a little unnerving.

    AND,
just to add to our paranoia, there is Car Number Plate Recognition.
There is a record of everywhere your car goes.

    Good news,
there are approximately 8,032,654,050 people on planet earth.
    They cannot track us all.
And, as Jenny says, they are not interested in Escorts and their clients.

But, occasionally, you can be caught out.

Wouldn't worry about it too much but it is something that can go wrong or get out of hand depending on how technology advances. AI at the moment is a big one and could be concerning. As far as facial recognition goes, don't worry too much about it on a day to day. It's mostly for advertising trying sell you shit.
Yes it's true if you speak around a phone or device it will listen for buzzwords and advertise you products. But for the most part, they don't care WHO you are. It's more of a 'This phone heard a word, let's play ads for that on this phone' and not 'irish jennys phone heard a word if that makes sense.'

If you have a passport or a drivers licence or any sort of picture ID. Your face is in a database anyway and scanning that picture is way easier than a camera in public scanning you.
