There was never going to be a replay we are taking it too far Delaney made his point well but making a diplomatic issue of it & a protest march in Dublin today is going too far having said that the cozy organization that is FIFA has lost all credibility as don't forget they changed the rules by seeding the playoffs so that we would meet a tough game entirely done as was said here already for money reasons
FAIR PLAY is their logo go away u fucking idiots......
fifa done what they wanted, they wanted the top 4 in them play-offs to get through, and they nearly achieved it.
france beat ireland
portugal beat bosnia
greece beat ukraine
and russia got turned over by slovenia so they got 3 out of the 4 teams they wanted to go through!
football is not a sport no more, its a business!
it should return to when it was a working mans game and not some were to take your business clients for dinner just to look good, its a fucking disgrace the way its turning into a circus every year!
the positive thing which should come out of this is to highlight the stupid cheating that goes on in football e.g ridiculous diving especially inside the box looking for a penalty, ridiculous 'letting on' your injured stopping the game & as soon as they get game stopped they are up in 20 seconds these things are KILLING the game of football SURELY too this will tempt the powers that be in football() to introduce video referees tried & tested in Rugby but hey FIFA dont want anybody telling THEM what to do eh?...
Too right ExperiencedPunter. The people calling for a replay are a bit naive and ignorant about football (and all sport), but when they feel deep down that there's something amiss, something a bit wrong about it all, they're right. FIFA is promoting Fair Play a lot, it should not do that. That's the job of the referees. The players can't be expected to be "ethical". And the only reason FIFA promote Fair Play so much isn't because they think players will actually listen, it's because IT'S VERY GOOD PR FOR THEM to be seen to be so upright and promoting morals etc.!!!!!!
I believe that the linesman should be dealt a career blow because of the decision, but come on, it was within the range of footballing error. (I saw that the referee did actually make enquiries to the linesman, he was totally blindsighted over it, his refereeing was perfect for that incident for all I know).
I believe that Ireland should be in the world cup. But it's not because of Thierry Henry's "ethics" or a severely negligent FIFA appointment at all that's the reason Ireland aren't going to the world cup.
It's because of the ridiculous seeding system of the playoffs (and Ireland were unbeaten in qualifiers, they should have had a top seed if anything) AND because of all the non-european and non-South-American teams that NEVER make it through to the second round and SHOULDN'T BE THERE AT ALL!!!!
That's what the FAI should have been complaining about. It's too late now.
Of course the FAI and government wouldn't bother with that at all. It's too abstract. You can't see the cheating and corruption going on. There's Henry, he's the "villain", he "cheated", let's go after them all after the match and demand a replay. Fools.
And as most of us are aware, using the hand in a way not intended, cheating a little, isn't so bad sometimes.

All the more reason for video technology in crucila games like that one, but the dinosaurs in FIFA condemn it even though it works well for other sports or even having a forth official at the goal mouth would have sufficed.
Both the linesmen and referee have been in hiding since the game and reports out that even their own countrymen have condemed their decisons.
As for the seeding system, they dont go on how well you did in just your group but all your games sicen the last major tournement and the position you held previously. Ireland were always going to be a bottom seed in the playoffs especailly when paired with the 'favorite' teams for the playoffs
As for your non European or S american teams making it to the second round, think of Austrailia and South Korea Nigeria Cameroon Ivory Coast and Ghana usually make it through so that negates that arguement.
As for the incident. Admittedly so of the famous sporting moments have involved cheating, and no matter what you say it is cheating. But being at the wrong end of that cheating is just plain wrong and hurtful especailly when as underdogs you were outplaying the bigger team. When you are playing a team full of superstars with a team of mid to low premier league players and a few who only play reserve football and to be beating them only to be dealt a cruel blow such as what Henry did to win the match, why shouldnt their be outcry. Why shouldnt there be accusations flying and restitution asked for.
John Delaney knew that a replay would never happen as France and Fifa were nhappy wiothy the outcome, all he did was highlight the issue relentlessly. Afterall he and others in this country have been swindled out of a fortune by the powers that be in World football.
