It was only one foul, same as all the shirt-tugging, elbowing, pushing, ankle-tapping that went on throughout the game.

In fairness no one knows how it would have turned out if the goal had been disallowed. You can't presume the same outcome minus the French goal. The goal changes how both teams played the second half of extra time. Maybe Ireland would have scored maybe France ould have maybe it would have gone to penalties no one can know.
