    Default Threads poll

There seems to be a wish by some members for threads to stay on topic, others may not care one way or the other. A simple solution would be for a thread creator to state in banner headline that they want their thread to remain on topic and that other members respect this request. Maybe say in banner "Stay on topic" or SOT or something. Mods can then see that and keep that thread on topic. It would apply to gen chat, warning section client request section. I am posting this to get an idea of the strength of feeling that threads staying on topic is wanted by most or not and putting forward a way to do that via stating they want their thread to stay on topic. Ideas welcome...

    You want my opinion

You don't give a shit about off topic discussions you used it as an excuse to lock a thread because you didn't like what it was about and you have a deep hatred for the thread starter.

Now you are dressing it up to try and hide your real motivation.

When was the last time before this you locked a thread for going off topic when it was not discussing moderating decisions ???

It's not up to the op to decide how a discussion should progress.
Its the Crips and the Bloods all over again

In an ideal world yes of course you would want your thread to stay on topic but you have the option to ignore off topic posts and only reply to the relevant ones.
Closing a thread unless it becomes a slagging match is in my opinion a bad idea, I would be far more in favour of having posts removed if they got out of hand, one or 2 small deviations isn't a big deal. Altough many posters contribute well to the community others have the tendency to bounce off each other and deviate (blankmannn, ploy26p (sorry lads)) as an example, so it's the likes of these ramblings that should be removed...
I personally think an Escorts ad thread should never be closed or removed unless she herself is breaking the rules, why should she be punished for others actions, remove all the post's within it if you have to but not close, how are people supposed to responed in a genuine way if that is done??

PS Moderators are there to ensure the rules are not broken, not to dictate what should and shouldn't be discussed.

no no, you're right, there was a period when ploy and myself clogged up the forum, but I think we're long since past that.

I just don't see the point in closing any thread unless it's something that really violates the rules, it's only a thread for christ's sake

I would say that warning threads should be kept on topic, for obvious reasons.

For ad threads, I would leave it up to the advertiser. They are paying, after all. Some enjoy the opportunity to flirt a bit. Some just want to put their telephone number out there. Some are sharp enough and have good enough English to put people in their place when they get out of hand. Some aren't or don't. Except in extreme cases I would let them decide.

For everything else, I wouldn't bother. It would be a lot of work to enforce and would probably make a lot of people unhappy. It's also just too hard to do consistently. I've posted off topic before. So have you.

Even in cases where keeping things on topic is worth doing there is still the question of how to do it, but that's being discussed on another thread.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.

I've said this already, but there's no need for any thread (in General Chat and EI The Soap Opera)to ever be made to stayh on topic. You put a bunch of people in room with a main topic of conversation and see how fast it is before a tangent appears. As long as there are no rules being broken, threads should be left alone.
