The problem with Irish and secondary schools, is that it's taught completely the wrong way. It's all about learning poems, stories, etc; basically memorising specific words/sentences that you'll never use again. Very very little of it is about teaching it for conversation. That's what they need to change.

Ughhhhh the Modh Conniolach, the very words still scare me!!!! True, and it's the same with every language, I like to think that I'm quite articulate (when I'm not in culchie mode lol) with a good grasp of grammar but I attribute that to being an avid reader since little, I don't have a clue what adjectives, adverbs are and I can't recite Seamus Heaney anymore but I get by!
