    73,000, i find that hard to believe.

    Don't get me wrong i dealt with native speakers 18 years ago as a kid right at the top of Donegal when in irish college 1 Sumner. But there was only about 400-500inhabitants up there.

    Connemara has a population of 30,000 alone, estimated 20,000 to 24,000 still use Irish as a first language, that's just one county too......

    Oh you mean native Irish speakers . . . 78,000 according to Google, not its NOT dying away, the number of gaeilscoils are growing!

    Irish collage early 90's in Ventry Co Kerry. I fell head over heels for a girl from montenotte. My first proper kiss..... only thing I learnt from that collage was how to kiss

    The problem with Irish and secondary schools, is that it's taught completely the wrong way. It's all about learning poems, stories, etc; basically memorising specific words/sentences that you'll never use again. Very very little of it is about teaching it for conversation. That's what they need to change.
