I need help please / Flowers 🌺

Artificially grown roses, that travel hundred of miles to reach Ireland, are not going to last very long once bought.

In summer, I like to cut a rose or two from the garden before I visit one of my lovely ladies.
Wild Edric is a tough, reliable and healthy rose that thrives in my garden and the fragrance is very strong.

If they are freshly cut they will last a couple of weeks.
If they are bought from a store, try to mimic the conditions where they were before.
Not too hot, not too cold.
Anyway these is not the season for roses.

At this time of year, try buying instead, daffodils, magnolias, camellias, snowdrops, etc.

Oh , silly me : asking a bunch of guys about flower care x

But if someone should have a clue I’d greatly appreciate it !

: I Always have cut flowers in my apartment , do have a bit of green-thumb generally ,

but now second time it’s happened with roses 🌹 :: I buy them in the store , they look great ,

take them home , trim the bottom before putting in water , and by next morning they’re wilted 🥀 .

What gives !?

It doesn’t happen Every time , but now it’s second time it’s happened . It’s irking .

Am I doing s’thing wrong ? ( I have no issues usually )

Is there s’thing wrong with those batches ?

Any advice or insight be appreciated xx

Make sure the water isn't too cold or it can 'shock' them, or so I heard?

At this point I do suspect I might have shocked the life out of them with too cold water 🥶 💦

Put some 7-up in water it helps keep them alive… a little sugar will do to… and
don’t put too much water in… if the water is too high on stem it kinda “drowns” them if you know what I mean…

I do tend to fill the vase , and do notice the stems deteriorate - usually lilies - but then I just cut them back a bit

and they last a good while yet : but that’s very good , I will try . Thanks x

iv had them last ages at home with just water and the little packets of feed. Cant recall any wilting overnight. Not that i have flowers in the house often

I know nothing about looking after flowers, but from your story, clearly something has changed, and if you have not changed your habits with home heating, then there are only two possibilities.

- The problem is to do with the flowers, in which case you could experiment by buying from a different place and see if that sorts it out.

- The problem is with your tap water - perhaps experiment by buying a bottle of water and see if they die as quickly.

I'll be interested to hear the end of the story! x

Last night went out and bought same bunch 🌹 from same shop .

Put them in room temp water .

Now we’ll see x

Science has proven that flowers like you singing or music



I tried that with my Daffodils
I put on Beethoven's 5th Symphony and they responded well and bloomed somewhat....
When I played Guns N Roses ' Welcome to the Jungle' they wilted a bit so music does have an effect so best to try various music to see what they thrive on

At My house they listen to Sade 🥰 x

Cut the stems at an angle instead of straight across and put the flowers in warm not boiling water.

I know it sounds weird but apparently a crushed up aspirin in the water keeps them fresher for longer

What does the Aspirin do ? X
