Still surprised they havent tried to recoup money off the escorts espacailly now we are broke.
So maybe if it was regualated both sides would gain something

Problem is, what if it doesn't, what if we do nothing and before we know it Ruhama have suceeded in getting crazy laws in that will make it even more dangerous? Some of you might not realise how much effort Ruhama are putting into trying to get it to be made a crime to buy sex in Ireland, but I can tell you serious efforts are being made, I know this because I watch the media closely. One of their core supporters Denis Naughton / Fine Gael is currently putting a motion to the Dail about this. Prostitution isn't going away, but if it gets driven further underground, it will be very much more dangerous.
It is a little like crying "wolf" though. As time goes by and nothing materialises they will lose credibility. Then is the time to try to turn concern for the poor "trafficked" girls into concern for their safety. I know that it is bad to say but it is things like the photos of Jessie that may help to change the law in time.
The truth is almost never bad to say. It's hard for me to understand how a judge/legislator can go home at night and sleep in their beds, being paid hundreds of thousands of taxpayers' money (possibly even using it for this as has been found out on many occasions despite elaborate efforts to cover it up), while people like Jessie are lying in their hospital beds after being mutilated, something that will cause her an awful lot of hassle for a long time, and all of the other girls out there living in fear of their lives because they won't allow even TWO prostitutes in the same building together.
It couldn't be much worse than the way it is. If they wanted to come up with a law that would be the most dangerous thing possible and help the people who commit these acts, then it would be to encourage girls to prostitute on their own.
I doubt that there is an appetite for this but you may be right. The qustion is, how do we fight it when none of us are in a position to stand up and be counted? I, for one, would not mind contributing a few bob to some fund that might employ someone to lobby on our behalf. Also,we may, collectively, be able to compile a dossier on real escorting ( as distinct from the Ruhama version) in this country with a view to giving a story to some newspaper reporter and let him run with it. If this guy Naughton does make a move it would be good to have someone primed to rubbish it with simple facts. Newspaper reporters are not held in high regard here because they are lazy and have few moral scruples but maybe they can be used if the work is done for them.
Jessie was very brave to tell her story here, but I wouldn't like to see her made a poster girl for why escorts shouldn't work alone, unless she really wanted to be. I imagine she needs to get better herself right now, and that is going to take all her energy.
I on the other hand have some energy and some arguments to make, which are common sense arguments, not based on any one attack or incident that has taken place, but on the risks all escorts face every day and how we could make this industry safer for everyone
We don't need money just brains and sweat.
Perhaps we need a private forum for discussing this sort of thing? We can't be making plans here in full public view.
Now, before I let you in, to check you are not an undercover religious fanatic adogwithabone, I'm going to have to ask you to perform a lewd sex act...
