    Default Quinn Country

Watched 2 parts of Quinn Country about Sean Quinn. The 3rd part tonight. The man was a huge success. He built his area up and provided a lot of employment. Started off with nothing doing sand and gravel. Then into cement. Later into insurance and property and hotels. The man made mistakes. He was used to success. Everything he done for 40 years was a success. He admittedly made mistakes. Dukes and those other sharks taking his companies off him. Surely there could have been a better settlement than that than destroy all he built up.

I feel for him as well. Great businessman and brought alot of employment to his area but unfortunately that one mistake cost him everything. He got that bit too greedy and the gambling streak in him came out. He must not have understood (and i don't think many others at the time did) the negative consequences of having a leveraged financial product such as CFD's. He believed and was convinced by Drumm et al that the share price would stabilize and eventually increase in value so he bought more as the price kept falling thinking that he is getting in cheap. If the price did rally and there was no crash he would have benefitted massively and we would have heard nothing about it ... but sadly rules are rules, he signed the contracts, no one forced him, he did it for financial gain, small price movement in the share price with cfd's equates to exponential gains/losses, for him it was exponential losses, collateral/margin calls and eventual takeover of his businesses. But your right Duke did come across as a smug dickhead but I suppose he also had a job to do.

He got greedy alright. He always knew success. He never experienced failure in business. The temptation was to keep going. If he didn't go into shares the companies would still be in his name and a great success.

I watched his interview closely and thought he had a serious case of lock jaw, turns out they all talk like that up there. Hard to have sympathy for him when on the one hand he wants to tell his side of the story and on the other he's using privacy legislation to scrub the internet of stories which paint him in a less-than-forgiving light.

Sean Quinn was brilliant, built an empire that was making 600 million profit per year. With that kind of money floating around it's difficult to understand how he messed up. But he did mess up big time and as a result everyone is paying for his mistakes. Alan Dukes had a job to do. He was very good and with no co-operation from Quinn he basically had to be removed to save hundreds of jobs. No body's fault only Sean Quinn. He wanted more and more
