president of a country who bombed Iraq & killed 1.5m Iraq innocent citizens looking for 'weapons of mass destruction' which were never found I feel sorry for previous winners who won it in the past it makes a mockery of the prize it does seem a bit odd to give the prize based on plans & negotiations that have yet to prove anything worthwhile.....

And to finish that the most STUPID REMARK NEVER READ IN MY LIFE “The truth is he won it for being the first black president of the US that's it
so any achievement he will make in his life will be because his is black

But I am sure you are more smart than the price judges; Are you ??
So your assuming what I said means something else!!

I never said any achievement will be because he is black did I. I didn't say he became president because he is black I said this prize is because he is the first black person to be president of the US just because you don't like that statement doesn't make it any less true.

He made a speech so what people make speehes all the time he hasn't done anything concrete. And how can you win for making a speech after nominations closed clearly that means he wasn't nominated for the speech. The speech is just an excuse to give it to him and the only thing they could possibly point to.

Don't get me wrong I like Obama I think he has potential to be a great leader but he hasn't done it yet. He is undoubtedly a million times better than bush but that is not a reason to give him this prize and I think like ep it makes a mockery of the prize.

So who do you think should have been awarded the prize?
I dont think there were that many candidates for it.

There were 205 nominations received by the awarding committee this year. That is the most they have ever received. 33 were organisations.

Who are they? I don't know because
Proposals received for the award of a prize, and investigations and opinions concerning the award of a prize, may not be divulged. A prize-awarding body may, however, after due consideration in each individual case, permit access to material which formed the basis for the evaluation and decision concerning a prize, for purposes of research in intellectual history. Such permission may not, however, be granted until at least 50 years have elapsed after the date on which the decision in question was made.

Personally I would love to see someone like John O'Shea (GOAL Founder) win it. 30+ years work and still going.

There was over 200 nominations who knows who they were but presumably they include people or organisations who have actually achieved something. I'd agree with Alecs suggestion although I would give it to the whole goal organisation keeping an Irish bias concern or trocraire would also be deserving personally I would favour medicine San frontiers for the award, but I'm sure there are thousands of people and organisations that have actually done something to deserve an award.

I mean we don't hand out Olympic medals until the race is over and Obama is only on the starting line. No one knows how things will turn out yes he looks good but so did Blair early on the effort he put into the GFA etc he could easily have been awarded a Nobel prize but 4 years later he was a warmongerer up to his neck in an unjustifiable war in Iraq.
