Differing nationalities and nationalism is not the problem........xenophobia could be a problem though, but with more people moving between the EU states and learning about each other's cultures and being able to communicate in a common language, the peddlers of xenophobic nationalism will have a smaller and smaller constituency over time. As for power, what power does Rhode Island have, or what influence does Arkansas wield on the world stage.....their power lies in being part of the United States of America.....and they have'nt fought each other in over 140 years despite massive differences between the individual states.
The US has had a mix of cultures from the start pretty much.Thats a different issue. The issue with the EU is we are all mixing which is fine in some cases but not in others.Im not saying that we would all go for each others throats straight away but i am saying that this mixing of differing ppl will cause probs down the line.No matter how well someone from Eastern Europe understands our culture it will not change the fact that they are very different ppl to us,likewise with us to them.

Our political views are too different,
    Westside.

That divide is even within one country ,the cultural divide between urban and rural Ireland is
still massive,a great judge of this are the girls that come here, they will tell u that the people
in the different parts of this small country vary hugely from one area to another in attitude
outlook etc.And in fairness Westie as for our political views being different i think we have
had evedience enough of that here for the last week
