I can understand an escort wishing to be paid up front, but just one point, if they say over the telephone that they do a particular extra and when you arrive you pay for it, then if they don't deliver, I'd imagine it would be very hard to get your money back for the extra.

Little advice on that
Ask on the phone or email if there are extras and how much are they.
Say you will bring enough money with you just in case you want any of the extras.
When you get there lay down just the amount for the basic session.
You can see how you feel as you go, if you want to add the extra, it will take like 2 second to get it out of the trouser pocket. Unless of course you know the escort (you're a regular) then Im sure she will let you make up the difference at the end. If its a first time meeting, this method works well, as then you dont get ripped off as you mentioned could happen.

i have no problems in asking for the money upfront always have done, only once did i forget to ask for it cos we were chatting away - although with regulars i request that they just put enveolope through the letterbox with the correct amount the day before the appointment with there name on it and the time they want
