Pure nonsense idea. Definately will not happen. If we didn't have a binge drink culture in Ireland perhaps we could look at change. This idea works better in countries where the are a bit more responsible about the quantity of alcohol intake. I always enjoyed Italy and the culture there, nobody puking on the streets or using them as toilets.

That's the whole problem. When it comes to drinking we are not a responsible enough race to have this kind of culture. These politicians need to stop trying to turn this country into a meditaranian metropolis. Its not.

Apparently they are brining in legislation for later nightclub hours. Another thing while covid damaged nightlife, if they were serious, then make it more affordable for ppl. The cost of drink in this country is ridiculous.

Italians don't drink beer. On visits to a bar they'd only consume a couple of glasses of beer, like 2 or 3 half pints, and sit over them for an age chatting. In the colder regions of Europe it is more common for the population to over indulge on alcohol.. now just because the Spanish, Greeks or Italian don't drink 8 pints on a night out how should that decide our Nightclub laws on opening times?

We should of course decide our own opening times. All I am saying is as a nation we cannot be civilised when it comes to nights out and drinking. I grew up near a night club and our family was simply plauged. We lost sleep due to the nouse, the fights, the cars spinning wheels, the glases being smashed outside and even our living room window smashed at 3.30am. As a community we tried to object in court to the dance licence but big business won out in the end.

Thar is very unfortunate, it can be a nightmare living close to bars or factories due to noise nuisance.. the location of the venue should be a factor in issuing any late licence. I don't think though that each and every nightclub would open till 6am as ireland is just too small a country for that to be commonplace..
but why this country operates a one size fits all rule is just ridiculous. Surely Dublin, Limerick, Cork should have a number of clubs that have the option to open till 6 or 7am.. the blanket rule to shut shop at the same time is retrograde..

Live 5 mins from Cork center. Dead against it. What about ppl who like an early morning walk? Ppl going to work? The public transport full of drunks? Instead of hanging around eating chips, they'll be hanging around eating breakfast rolls. They'll wait for the bus. Way cheaper than a cab.

People should have the right to socialise at 4, 5 or 7 am in a free society if they wish. Just because you have a job should not infringe on others rights to go out late at night to nightclubs. Boisterous behaviour on public transport is an entirely different issue I'm afraid.. nothing to do with OP

I think it's a great idea...This industry has lost so much business, give them a chance to get it back

There is nothing funny about Alcohol or alcohol related deaths. And the topic of the thread is about alcohol not cancer. Alcohol kills over 10,000 people each year. Cancer isn’t a self-inflicted condition; alcoholism is and giving people the chance to drink more instead of less is a bad idea.
