You should ask for this thread to be moved dude.
Max Hastings, Vietnam.
Bloody brilliant book highly recommended.
There are very few complete history's of the Vietnam war. Loads of individual accounts etc.
Mr Hastings says in his book that it was inspired by The Vietnam War documentary by Ken Burns on PBS. Brilliant stuff.
You should watch all ken Burns documentary's he is a master history story teller of American history.

Oh I've seen the documentaries. I know that book, but I haven't read it. I've read so much on WWII. I did however read "Vietnam" by Christian Apply...this book is a bit of a monster, but a brilliant, harrowing read...it's told from every perspective so it's so impartial. I found it a tough read and very moving. I recommend. I'm going to get your book now actually as I'd heard of it.

Just finished Master of the Senate by Robert A. Caro his third book on Lyndon B. Johnson.
A master peace and a brilliant president if his legacy was not ruined by the Vietnam war which hunted him to the end of his days.
Although Mr Caro has yet to write about this period.
Looking forward to it.
Someone once told me if you want to even try to understand about America read about the presidents. They where so right.
Truman. By David McCullough is a must read and reads more like a history of the wild west. Brilliant stuff.
One of the best books I have ever read is A Bright Shining Light. John Paul Vann and America in Vietnam. By Neil Sheehan. Fucked up stuff.
Neil Sheehan it is fair to say is one of the reasons why people in the west have such a negative view on the that war. Vietnam was no better or worse than any other war, it was the reporting on it that was too much in peoples faces.
