Sorry to bring up a serious topic on a Sunday, but I've been reading articles about Mia Christinas book in all the papers this weekend. I’m very recent to the scene and (without wanting to bore people with the usual sob-story) joined to try to get that feeling of engagement that is not at home – theres only so many things you can do for so many years years before you have to accept this is your sex life now – 10 mins every second Saturday night but don’t expect any reciprocal touching.

I’ve been lucky with one escort in particular i've visited a few times now who creates such a realistic illusion that I sometimes forget its a business arrangement for her and that I’m not having an affair. However then I read these articles and you can’t help but have even more doubts than already existed – sentences such as ‘everyone knows the majority of girls working are coerced’ or that all girls are there because of sexual trauma in their lives earlier. It does make you pause and seriously consider that you should cease visits and find another outlet for relief.

How does somebody know if a girl is coerced or forced to work? And from the girls side, do you find that guys even care? I've chatted with that one escort about it and she seems happy with her choice, but still.........

From my point of view. I had already decided to give younger girls a miss for other reasons, especially those with poor english, but on reflection I guess I always knew the possibility that some girls are there against their will and I’m just trying to assuage my guilt at entering the world in the first place. Its less likely that a late 20’s or 30’s year old is being forced to work, but then its not beyond the bounds of possibility either.

What do you say to somebody whos looking at this site for the first time – how you do defend your industry against these claims – or is there any defence?

Maybe I'm being naive, but I would think on this website the vast majority of the ladies are definitely independent...it is 2022 not the 90s or beyond. Of course there will be a minority. I think in the developed world this situation is definitely much better than it was. I have always been very wary of that situation and even had a thread up myself. Of course you have to be vigilant, but the women I meet usually have expensive shopping habits and always look and dress great and are certainly living their life so I don't have too many worries here. I have met women on my travels and I've always looked to meet independent women... steering clear of agencies because I've felt uncomfortable with that.

I would think that if the woman has good English, professional photos and allows reviews then it's unlikely she has been forced into sex work. But then how can I know for sure? I plan to only see 3 or 4 women from now on and they all seem to be happy with what they're doing.

Ultimately no one is forcing you to be a punter. If you are worried or feel guilty then maybe stop punting?

I don't think you're being naive - that was my feeling too - but then I see a review a few days ago (I couldn't find it again now if you paid me) where the punter complained about the loud talking from men in living room downstairs. I'd never go into a private house, and certainly not if there were other men on the premises - that really sounded like something that was supposed to be in the past. I guess its the usual advice on here, look for those with plenty of reviews and good english.

I was just wondering what the feeling is within the community to these articles. Or does everyone just have to accept people coming out in the papers demonising all parties (escorts, men, website), and reinforcing the impression in the wider community of a seedy activity where men prey on vulnerable women. The phrase de jour seems to be 'Consent cannot be purchased'.

(and yes, I have been accused several times in the past of being an overthinker - its just my nature!)

To the majority its just a job
some enjoy it more than others
some grow bored or tired of it

have kept in touch with a few escorts i used to visit frequently, now retired
some of them used agencies,some didn't
all of them now back in their home countries,3 in relationships
2 of them now have a kid

trafficking might happen occasionally but as far as i can see,its far from the norm here
