Default Government Enforcement - why yous put up with it in Ireland

RTE chief now wants every household to pay a tv licence and wants it enforced
They're in debt to tune of 65 million but I don't get it as there is nothing on it and still paying their top presenters big money and theyre not worth it.
    People will pay it

In England its being suspended and anyway if TV licence comes to our door we chase them its so different in Ireland.

Why should you be forced to pay for something that is useless, corrupt and you never use

Totally different kettle of fish in Britain though, if I were living there I'd have no problem paying a TV license. BBC produce some world-beating stuff and there's no advertising.
We have to put up with adverts, almost zero innovative home-made programs and Ryan FUCKING Tubridy.
    Anything's a dildo if you're brave enough.

Nothing new here. There has always been enforcement. One evening a TV licence inspector called to my house, the prick alleged I had no licence. Took me 5 minutes to find it and he examined it, off he went, no apology.
The thing I hate most about paying that fee is that a lot of it goes to paying obscene salaries to the likes of Joe Duffy and Ryan Tubridy. Paid far far more than the Taoiseach. A pure disgrace! Overpaid & overrated bluffers.

But its the BBC and no one watches it either, only a few good shows and thats it, you only need licence for live tv, they send out letters that lie and scare people into paying, we can have a tv in the house for watching dvds etc and dont need a licence for that.
Theres nothing on RTE, rather watch paint dry
look at the calibre of guests on Ryan Tubritys late late, Twink and her haemorrhoids and compare that to Graham Norton show

Absolutely nothing to see on RTE. Would be interseting to see stats on views as they have them in US.
How come state does not clamp down on overspending, easier to just look to extort more money?

Back in the 80s on RTE we were treated to ads for products that were state monopolies and we had no other choices to buy.
So we were limited to watching two channels, and see ads for ESB when would have have already been a customer if the TV was powered as there were no other operators 😀, then ads for telecom eireann as well ..probably in the 90s too...twas a farce Ted

Bord na Mona, calor gas probably, what did they need to waste advertising money for

The way I understand all the rubbish regarding a TV licence is that IF your TV is able to receive a signal either through a terrestrial antenna or satellite dish then technically you need a licence, if you are using a monitor, that usually has no method of receiving and decoding a terrestrial signal, then a licence is not required.

You are correct but the FFG brigade are trying to change that. Instead of a TV License, you have to buy a "Broadcast License", so even if you just watch YouTube on your mobile you're paying for Tubridy's coke.
