What's with the sarcasm and LOLs on this thread? I mean the Gardai in general aren't the most competent in the world. I wouldn't have thought he would be so hard to find, but anyway hopefully he will be caught soon. It happened in a town in Ireland and he seems to have ended up on foot. Anyway lets see how it goes. Enjoy your little high fives and fist pumps between the two of you.

You wouldn't have taught he would be so hard to find, and on what basis would that be? If there is no eye witness and no CCTV just how are they meant to catch him ? They will need to carry out a thorough investigation and rely on members of the public helping, they will need to review as much dash cam and CCTV in the area as they can get their hands on, this all takes time and they must get it right. You are been naieve if you think they should have it all wrapped up in a day like a tv programme.

You do know that in the wilds of the Midlands there isn't a cctv camera on every corner, right? And that in order to convict someone of murder you need to have your ducks in a row, because it wouldn't be like a defence lawyer to have a case thrown out on a technicality...

As for the gardai, I would put them up against any other police force for their success rate in solving crimes.

Yeah ok detective. What about the rampant drug problem in Ireland...one of the worst countries in Europe for it and gangland killings regularly. I don't think they have a handle on that myself. There has also been a hell of a lot of corruption within our police force. Now come on...I think there would be a lot of physical evidence to link the perpetrator to the crime given the violent nature of this terrible crime. Anyway I don't need to debate on this tragedy. Too many know alls around even on a story like this.

And this crime happened when? It's not CSI Miami. Lab tests, post mortem, takes time. It's been what, 2 days?

I didn't say they were perfect, I said I would compare them to any other police force. And you want to bring drug gangs into it, ok. Do you know any guards? Any detectives? I've had some very interesting conversations with one or two of them. They are not dragging their knuckles across the floor.

Were there not two women who came across the attack? I don't know for sure, but I heard that on the news and if so wouldn't they qualify as eye witnesses? Anyway we'll see how the investigation progresses.

When were you talking to the guards? I hope it wasn't outside some dodgy apartment! Yeah I know some guards alright. I wouldn't say I'd be shooting the shit with them over a few beers mind you.

You know nothing, it is speculation, I know nothing, but I do know a lot of very dedicated Gardai and they will do everything possible to catch the murderer, but even if there were eye witnesses, unless the filmed the murderer, it is not as easy as you may thing, and they need to get it right, so speed is not the crucial aspect here, it is to make sure that they catch and CONVICT the killer.

Not the best argument, that you think the only time someone could hold a conversation with a detective is either outside an apartment or in the pub.

I have a little more faith in them to do their job than in your unfounded criticism of them. You'd swear the guards committed the murder and are actively trying to cover it up, to go by your opinion of them.

Speed is not crucial? Nearly always the longer it takes the case can go cold. 24 hours or 48 hours go by and that can be problematic. Ireland is not the hardest country to leave with the border with the North. If this man was not from Ireland he could very easily leave as quickly as he can. If he is Irish that is different. Anyway maybe we will get some positive news very soon.
