Default What customs and things do you find strange in Ireland?

Some things that I love about meeting new people from other countries and ladies on EI, are finding out about other cultures and what they think about living in Ireland, our culture and food.

Recently, I tried to explain what Irish stew was and the lady seemed horrified. I am interested in finding out what people from outside of Ireland find strange about our culture, country and living in Ireland? 😀☘️

Mealtimes are a bit vague here.

Meeting someone at lunchtime and immediately you think of in or around 1pm.
Meeting at dinner time is somewhere between 5pm and 9pm. But some folk have dinner at lunchtime so that's a spanner in the works straight away.
Now try and meet someone at teatime. That really fuxks with their head.

Same with when we say quarter past the hour instead of ie 1.15

Another random thing is waving at some stranger while driving or saying howya to people you pass on the street while walkimg.

I went through a period of being very Irish. I watched RTE and went to Mass. I think I was having a breakdown looking back. I got a grip and never looked back TBH.

I am Irish and can't even work out meal times.

I call lunch time 12 noon - 1pm dinner but everyone in our house calls it lunch.

    I call 6pm tea time.

I call the last meal of the day supper, but some people use the word supper to describe their dinner time at 6pm. Also I know some people who have their "dinner/supper" around 8pm-9pm. This is getting into the realms of my supper 9pm-10pm (cup of tea and two slices of toast).

I am from the North, we are more secular here and we don't have an Angelus bell. I think it is something to do with a call to prayer in the Catholic Church.
