    Default Afghanistan

What is happening in Afghanistan is appalling, what life are women going to have now? While their rights and freedoms still left alot to be desired under the last administration they had still made huge strides ,education was avaliable they could Express themselves how they dressed etc.
While maybe not easy for every one they still had opportunities to get jobs and have careers.
That will now be gone in a flash back to wearing Burkas covered head to toe and chaperone by a Male when going outside.
I really feel for the generation of girls since 2000 or so that had not experienced life under the Taliban and now what a shock it will be to them it will be like being in a prison all their freedoms and way of life snatched away overnight,it doesn't bear thinking about.
This is without even mentioning the life of misery and sexual servitude many are going to suffer. The Taliban are already getting the village Immans to compile lists of females between 12 and 45 to marry Taliban fighters they are considered spoils of war and can you imagine the life they will have of physical and sexual degradation .
It seems as if the outside world is totally helpless to do anything ,soldiers wont be sent back in and after 20 years of bloodshed ,billions of euros the Taliban can claim total victory .
The more I read and get to understand that I feel so sad for the women of Afghanistan and what they are about to face it is truly horrific. It really is a reality check k on the great way of life we have even if we dont appreciate it always

    It's absolutely horrific.

A disgrace that the world is allowing this to happen

What would you propose that "the world" should do to prevent it?

    "The Graveyard of Empires"

The British, The Russians, NATO and before that countless others have tried and failed to instil any sort of order.
It is difficult to turn illiterate peasants who still believe the earth is flat into a democratic civilized country. To do so would require a long time, commitment and money and soldier's lives. America just lost interest. The rest of NATO could have remained but without America they have just followed America and left.

The Tailiban will now take over, and without a common enemy, will return to being tribal and fight among themselves.

Yes, very sad for a generation of young girls and woman. If only leaders in America would have studied there own history before that folly. Vietnam mark II! But on the bright side bacha bazi will stop under the Taliban rule. Look it up! It's a mad world.

Not having a background in political strategy. I haven't a clue.
But sitting back and letting it happen is inexcusable.

Ah now in fairness the Russians backed a communists takeover that had no popular support at all. That even went against their own worldview for revolution.

USA withdrew on purpose for many reasons, 1 of them being that they wanted to hand Taliban control back over Afghanistan to let them roll in Iran's backyard. Appears to be some plan being drawn there to elevate pressure on Iran which might culminate into something a bit more dangerous to the region, depending on how Iran will retaliate.
They tried to get them to submit to the peace treatment again and stop the nuclear program but they weren't able to reach an agreement, so this appears to be plan B that is kicking in.
Keeping their forces in Afghanistan might lose them some lives but a country like USA can easily deal with Taliban. But withdrawing the troops saves them lives and helps up the pressure on Iran.

I personally have no positive or negative feelings towards what is happening there, it's literally their religion and culture and education level that led to this, it's a natural conclusion. Unfortunately at some part of your life you come to term that not everyone on earth will have a nice, positive lives and there's nothing you can do about it.

So you mean eternal intervention by military means to overthrow a government because they operate according to a fanatical religious order that doesn't sit well with your morals.

Unfortunately that's not how the world works. Should Muslim countries overview Catholic governments? The argument is the same and the policies are as abhorrent to them as theirs are to us.

I absolutely despise what is going on there and am deeply saddened by it, but suggesting that foreign powers should just go in and stop it happening is not the answer.

Honestly, even if your knowledge of history only spans the last 20 years you should know that it clearly already hasn't worked. The afghans just hunker down and wait it out.
