I read about those times which were more relaxed and simple.

And I have also arranged things by email, whats app etc, but that is the exception to the rule. And unless you are pretty confident in what you are doing and trying to arrange you will get zero response from texts emails etc.
IMO the only mails that get responses generally are where I have given all the information the lady will want, my name, my hotel, the date and time, and how many hours I would like her to come for, and a contact phone number and offer to pay a deposit or cover her taxi fare etc. It let's her know I am serious and know what I want.
